HERMISTON Florencio Infante Rodriguez, 75, of Hermiston, died Friday, March 9 at Good Shepherd Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1925 in Donna, Texas to Antonio S. and Maria DeJesus Infante Rodriguez. He married Luz Juarez on July 24, 1948 in the Virgen de la Luz Catholic Church in Monterrey, Mexico.

In 1956, Florencio moved to Quincy, Wash., where he was employed as a farm laborer. In 1969, he moved his family to Ontario where he continued working as a farm laborer and also started his involvement in Advocacy for Farm Workers. In 1974, he announced his candidacy for Oregon state representative in District 60. In 1976, Florencio settled in Hermiston where he was employed by J.R. Simplot, Lamb-Weston and CAPCO Senior Services.

He was a member of the Grange and had been an Oregon Human Development Board member for four years, during which time he received recognition for community service. Florencio devoted countless hours of volunteer work, assisting with farm workers, the poor and underprivileged with issues relating to housing, education and jobs. He will be known for his dedication in serving the needs of the people.

Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his wife, Lucita of Hermiston; sons Victor Rodriguez of Wenatchee, Wash., Florencio I Jr., Antonio, Jose, Reyes A., and Rumaldo Rodriguez, all of Hermiston; daughters Mary A. Alvarado and RoseMary Vargas, both of Quincy, Wash., Maria Guadalupe de-Paz of Wenatchee, Wash., and Lydia Trevino of Ephrata, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ramon Rodriguez of LaFeria, Texas; sisters Consuelo I. Rodriguez, Carmen Rodriguez, Delia Villa and Maria Cruz, all of Donna, Texas, and Maria Escarilla of Pharr, Texas.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Recitation of the Rosary was said on Sunday, March 11 at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston with Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, March 12 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston.

Burial was in the Hermiston Cemetery.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
