City OKs LDS church facility

HERMISTON It was standing room only at the Hermiston City Council meeting Monday night as onlookers spilled down the stairs into the city hall lobby below.
The main draw was the proposed 24,460-square-foot Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints facility on the east side of S.E. Ninth Street south of the Maxwell Canal.
The Hermiston Planning Commission denied their request to build the facility earlier this summer and church officials promptly filed an appeal.
The council overturned the commissions decision last night.
Neighbors were not happy.
