HERMISTON Edwin Charles Castellaw died Jan. 29, at his home in Hermiston at the age of 68.

Ed was born on June 30, 1933, the second of three children to Charles Arthur Castellaw and Opal Ollie Shoemaker in Bayard, Neb. He lived for a short time in Nyssa, then onto Hermiston in 1942.

He was active in school sports, namely high school football.

In 1950, he started a lifelong career with P.G.G. A year later, he married his grade school sweetheart, Judie Lane Black, and they had three children: Arthur, Michael and Sandra.

He was also involved with Boy Scouts of America most of his adult life, receiving the district award of merit and, in 1999, the silver beaver.

Ed loved to camp and hunt. He retired from P.G.G. in 1996, which gave him more time to follow a newfound love O.T.T. (Oregon Trail Travelers), an 1840-1850 reenactment group. They traveled to grade schools and community events throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho living as though it was the 1840s, showing trades and crafts. He was known as the blacksmith.

Much of Eds life was spent helping to guide and influence youth to make wise and righteous choices. He was a Hermiston resident for 60 years and will be missed by all.

Ed is survived by Judie, his loving wife of 50 years, son and his wife, Mike and Janeal, and daughter Sandra Hickey, all of Hermiston; brothers and their wives, Elton and Joan Castellaw of Belmont, Calif., and William and Carman Castellaw of Apple Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Lynnette and Shawn Burnham of Billings, Mont., Keith and Cathleen Hickey of Hermiston, Kirt Hickey of Honolulu, Hawaii, Michelle Hickey of Hermiston, Katie Castellaw of Deltona, Fla., Megan Castellaw of Laie, Hawaii, Cami Castellaw of Rexberg, Idaho, and Cody Castellaw and Jayme Castellaw, both of Hermiston; and best friend, Dee of Hermiston.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; son, Art Castellaw; and son-in-law, Dan Hickey.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a..m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 850 S.W. 11th Street in Hermiston. Burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery.
