THE DALLES Donald David Wink, 87, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Thursday, Oct. 23.
He was born July 4, 1916 in Kearney, Neb., the older of two children to Frank and Nellie (Carney) Wink and was raised in Kearney.

Don settled in The Dalles in 1938 and the family owned and operated The Dalles Auction Yard. The family had additional auction yards in Redmond, and Goldendale, Wash. They also built N.W. Livestock in Hermiston, and Don owned and auctioned at NW Livestock and The Dalles Auction Yard until his retirement in 1979. He lived in Hermiston from 1952-1979 and returned to The Dalles in 1979. Donald was also in the Army from 1943-1946 and was with Company A of the 758th Railroad Shop Battalion in India for 23 months. He was discharged at the rank of staff sergeant.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Oregon Trail Good Sam Club. He enjoyed gardening and RV travel.
Don is survived by his wife, Letha Mae (Petersen) Wink, whom he married on Oct. 28, 1972, in La Grande, of The Dalles; his son and wife, Edward E. and Annette Wink, Kennewick, Wash.; his grandson, Edward L. Wink, Irrigon; his stepson and his wife, Larry J. and Jennifer Anderson, Milton-Freewater; his step-granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Anderson, Los Angeles, Calif.; four nephews and their spouses, Randy and Beverly Wink, Lubbuck, Texas; Dennis and Patricia Wink, San Diego, Calif.; Russel and Gayle Wink, Bend, and Jeffrey and Shirley Wink, Gresham. His brother, Bernard Wink and his stepson, Randy Anderson preceded him in death.
Viewing visitation was held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 26, and Monday, Oct. 27.
Graveside services were held at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 27, with Rev. Todd Unger officiating.

Betty Ruth Brown

HERMISTON Betty Ruth Brown died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at her home in Hermiston at the age of 73.
Betty was born in Florence, S.C., on June 30, 1930, to Lonnie and Roxie White Hodge.
She moved with her family to Carol County, Virg., in 1944. She married Frank Brown on June 1, 1947, and they moved to Hermiston in August of 1961.
She worked as a cashier at Stewart’s Market starting in 1964 and later at I.G.A. She also did demonstrations at Safeway. She loved meeting and talking to the customers.
Betty loved to garden, can, read and shop with her three daughters.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Brown; sons and their wives, Tom and Cindy Brown, Larry and Sharon Brown, and Danny and Kathy Brown, all of Hermiston; daughters and their husbands, Susan and Jim Beanblossom of Hermiston, Darlene and Matt Clark of Heppner, and Carolyn and Steve Bruning of Pendleton; seven grandchildren, Darci Giesen, Jeromie Brown, Dwayne Brown, Katie Rettkowski, Robert Nichols, Jessica Brown and Maranda Brown; and four great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Roxie Hodge; sister, Patsy Lowe; and granddaughter, Ketra Brown.
At her request, no funeral service will be held. The family will have a private family gathering at a later date. Disposition was by cremation.

Tracy O. Wilcox
April 24, 1919-Oct. 24, 2003
SALEM Tracy O. Wilcox of Salem died Friday, Oct. 24. She was a former resident of Hermiston.
Mrs. Wilcox was born April 24, 1919, in Yakima, Wash., to Cecil and Katie Masterman. She had lived in Hermiston from 1956 to 1998, when she moved to Salem.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hermiston and was involved with the Hermiston Senior Center and Agape House.
She is survived by one son, Dave Disselbrett of Salem, stepdaughter, Maryann Crawford of Nyssa; and two grandsons, David Disselbrett of Anchorage, Alaska, and Brandon Disselbrett of Salem.
She was preceded in death by one son, Edward “Pat” Disselbrett, in 1969, and her husband, Bill Wilcox, in 1983.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice at 2700 Market Street Northeast, Salem, 97301.
A memorial service will be held at Lankmark Baptist Church at 125 East Beech Avenue in Hermiston Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. Private interment was in the Hermiston Cemetery.
