Raymond “Ray” Pettey

WALLA WALLA, Wash. Raymond “Ray” Pettey, also affectionately called “Bud” by his family, 83, died on Nov. 7, in Walla Walla, Washington. Ray was born to Bruce and Maud Pettey in Roseburg, on Dec. 22, 1922.
He graduated high school in Drain. Ray then joined the military serving in the Army during World War II, then later transferring to the Air Force. During a military stay in Chicago, Ray met the love of his life, Edith Ferguson. They married on July 11, 1944. Ray received his bachelor’s degree in education from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth. He then went on to work at schools throughout Oregon, in cities including Banks, Woodburn, Brooks, and Ashland.
Ray and Edith truly enjoyed many hobbies together; some of those include rock hounding, woodworking, and collecting. He was an avid reader. Ray will be remembered as a lover of the Pacific Northwest; he enjoyed discovering and exploring the back roads and rivers in this beautiful area of the country.
Ray is survived by his wife, Edith, of 62 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Janey and Dave Gould of Umatilla; two sisters; Lois Case of McMinnville, and Doris and, her spouse, Glen Anderson of Ridgefield, Wash; two grandchildren and their families, Matt and Stormi Davis and their son Ethan of Beaverton, and Alana and Brandon Wilson and their two boys Andrew and James of Umatilla.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Monday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary, 590 Elma Ave S.E., Salem.
