Alfred Smith

Alfred Smith died on Thursday, April 10 at Regency Hermiston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hermiston at the age of 79.
Alfred was born May 20, 1928 at Headington, Oxford, England to parents, Gilbert & Florence (Smith) Smith. Alfred was raised in England and served with British Tank Corps. in Germany during World War II. He was discharged in 1955 and on October 8, 1955 he married Gwendoline Wakefield at Oxford, England. Alfred worked at an auto factory for several years and also worked as a gardener for the Queen Mary. Alfred & Gwen came to the U.S. in 1984 locating to Cheyenne, Wyo. and then to Hermiston in 1986 where he also worked as a gardener. He attended the Hermiston Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed watching T.V., English football (soccer), gardening, and he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gwendoline Smith of Hermiston; daughters Heather Spinden of Hermiston and Avril Chamberlain of Oxford, England; brother William Victor Smith of Oxford, England; sister Ellen Bennett of Oxford, England; and two grandsons, Josh and Ben Spinden of Hermiston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jim, Bert, and Arthur; and two sisters, Florie and Esther.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 11 a.m at the Hermiston Assembly of God Church. Disposition was by cremation.
