Helen R. Northrop, 81, formerly of Northrop Steel in Hermiston, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Ashley Manor Residential Care Facility.

Viewing is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. Her graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mrs. Northrop was born Sept. 14, 1926, at Maquoketa, Iowa, to Charles and Mabel (Clark) Streets. She was raised in Iowa by her grandmother.

On Nov. 25, 1959, she married Carol Chester Northrop in Boise, Idaho, whom she met at the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Stanfield. Helen and Carol owned and operated Northrop Steel in Hermiston for many years, where she ran the office and was a hard worker. She enjoyed canning foods, cooking, crafts, fishing and camping. She loved her pet dogs, both named Jackie.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Fern, and her husband, Bud Davis of Boise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carol Northrop in 1994; parents Charles and Mabel Streets; sister Galilee Streets; four brothers, William, John, Vincent, and Calvin Streets.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Pet Rescue, 1844 Geer Road, Hermiston, OR 97838.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
