Bowlers at Desert Lanes in Hermiston will be in for a treat once the remodeling owner Cookie Hummell plans is completed.
Starting Sept. 8, new synthetic lanes and new pin setters will be installed plus 42-inch flat screen automatic Telescore machines, Hummell said. The lanes will be closed for a week while most of the work is being done.
“It will take about a month, but we are only closed for a week,” said Hummell.
Hummell’s family has owned Desert Lanes 40 years and the bowling alley celebrated its 50th birthday this year. Hummell said Desert Lanes is one of the last lanes in Oregon to still have wooden lanes. The reason for the upgrade to synthetic lanes, made by Brunswick, is because the equipment to work on the wooden lanes is no longer available.
“It will be like it’s a brand-new place,” Hummell said. Farquharson joins Stratton Agency Jon Farquharson has joined ISU Insurance Strategies, The Stratton Agency, as an One Responsible Source agent.
