Carl R. Perkins

Carl R. Perkins, 70, of Hermiston died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Good Shepherd Medical Center.

Visitation was Friday at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. His graveside service with military honors was Saturday at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mr. Perkins was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Hermiston to Daniel and Goldie Graves Perkins. He was raised and attended school in Stanfield. He joined the Army National Guard and served for one year before enlisting in the Navy. He served for 20 years, including several tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1980 as chief petty officer.

He then worked as a machinist and later as a property manager for several years. He moved to Hermiston in 1998, and later to Nebraska for a short time before returning to Hermiston in 2006.

He enjoyed discussing politics, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, and sharing his life stories and experiences.

Mr. Perkins is survived by sons Curtis Perkins of Umatilla and Greg and Kenny Arrington, both of Mobile, Ala.; daughter Shelly Webb of Mobile, Ala.; brothers Clyde Perkins of Spokane, Larry Perkins of Hermiston, Daniel Perkins of Olympia, Wash., and Terry and Kenny Perkins, both of Missouri; sisters Irene Cain of Missouri, Norma Cain of Cainsville, Mo., Shirley Andrews of Olympia, Wash., and Karen Bates of Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Perkins.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
