Trella Rosalie “Rose” Meads, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Ashley Manor Assisted Living Facility in Hermiston.
Her funeral was scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston with burial following at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mrs. Meads was born April 8, 1921, at Winfield, Kan., to John Wesley and Ida (Ratliff) Williams. She was raised in Ft. Scott, Kan., and graduated from high school there.
In 1938, she married Melvin Lavern “Jack” Meads in Ft. Scott. They moved to Hermiston, and then to Long Creek, and then back to Hermiston in 1956. She worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 14 years at the Hinkle Hilton as a waitress.
Mrs. Meads attended the First Christian Church and was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, canning and homemaking.
Survivors include a son, Ivan Meads of Hermiston; brother, Bill Williams of Helix; sister, Betty Wells of Clear Lake, Okla.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Jack” Meads; parents, John and Ida Williams; three brothers, Charlie, TL, and Junior Williams; and a sister, Wanda Sheets.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Columbia/Willamette Chapter, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.
Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
