OSAA boys cross country championships

EUGENE — If it were up to the Jesuit boys cross country team, no individual names would be needed to recount its OSAA Class 6A championship Saturday.
In fact, the five Crusaders runners who placed in the top 10 — in a span of 10.4 seconds — probably wouldn’t mind being referred to simply by their bib numbers: 934, 933, 932, 936 and 935.
Class 5A: Crater junior Josh Elliott wasn’t about to take any chances. Whereas most runners wait to make their moves at the end, Elliott wanted to take control early.
“I wasn’t going to leave this up to my kick because my kick isn’t the best,” Elliott said. “I just left it up to pure determination.”
Elliott, who placed 15th at state last season, won in 15:44.4, finishing ahead of Hermiston senior Jordan Ringe (15:54.3).
