Death Notice: Sharron Lynn Cherry

Sharron Lynn Cherry died on Feb. 28, 2009 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 74 years. A funeral service was held on Thursday at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston, with burial at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mrs. Cherry was born on Oct. 26, 1934 in Portsmouth, Va. to parents, Thomas and Katherine Murphy Bradley. Her father served in the Marine Corps, and the family moved across the United States. They eventually settled in Stanwood, Wash., north of Seattle. Mrs. Cherry graduated from Stanwood High School in 1952. She went on to Nursing School in Everett, Wash. and then to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash., where she earned her nursing degree. She married William G. Cherry Jr. in 1956 and they traveled with the Navy for several years. They settled in Hermiston in 1971 to raise their six children. Mrs. Cherry worked as a nurse for 45 years, including many years at Umatilla Hospital and later at the Hermiston Hospital (Good Shepherd Medical Center). She enjoyed gardening and was an experienced knitter and enjoyed spinning her own yarn. Mrs. Cherry loved the challenge and learning about many different fiber types. She was awarded blue ribbons for her projects at the Umatilla County Fair. Mrs. Cherry was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston.
She is survived by her sons Glenn Cherry, Eureka, Mont., John Cherry, Milton Freewater, and Dean Cherry, Hermiston; daughters Anne Heath and Lynne Hamblin, both of Hermiston, and Jann Gorski, Walnut Creek, Calif.; brother Capt. Thomas Bradley, Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Cherry was preceded in death by her father Thomas M. Bradley, mother Katherine J. Bradley, step father Robert Johnston, brother Daniel Bradley, and sister Colleen Brown.
