- The Hermiston WalMart Superstore now has a new look inside and out. The company called it “Project Impact” and Hermiston is one of only two stores in Oregon to be redesigned. The new electronics department design gives customers more interactive and hands-on experience to test new technology.
File photo
If you have visited the Hermiston Walmart recently, you might notice one or two changes to the store.
There are wider aisles, merchandise has moved to new locations, the pharmacy has been remodeled, and new signs abound in the store. The newly remodeled Hermiston store will host a grand reopening starting at 7:30 a.m. June 17.
Walmart associates will present grants to local service organizations from the Walmart Foundation. The local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter will present the colors at the grand opening and David Andrews will lead the invocation. Shelby Harris will perform the national anthem.
Store manager Randall Fross said the corporate giant listened to customers and have redesigned the store to make shopping at Walmart “even easier.”
The remodeled Hermiston store, which originally opened in 1992, features a more open shopping environment with wider aisles that contain no product displays. Walmart also realigned the departments customers shop in most frequently, making it quicker to purchase everyday items. The store is open 24 hours.
“The new layout is easier to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for necessities,” Fross said.
The interior has been brightened up and better lighting has been installed to create a more inviting shopping experience and help define the merchandise areas in the 210,000-square foot store. Low-profile shelving creates an improved sightline and directional signage helps customers find the products they need, Fross said.
Fross has also combined the Site-to-Store pick-up location and photo lab in one area.
“Customers now have ready access to these services as well as associates who can provide assistance as well,” Fross said.
The remodel also brings Walmart customers an expanded electronics department featuring a wide selection of the latest consumer electronics and home entertainment.
The new design, Fross said, includes a more hands-on experience for customers with interactive displays for hi-definition Blu-ray, video gaming and portable electronics. The interactive display enable shoppers to test new technology including laptops, cameras, phones and GPS units.
The store also features a broader assortment of fresh, frozen and dry grocery products and offers a large selection of Hispanic food items, Fross added.
A new department called “Celebration Station” has been added and will feature party supplies, greeting cards, balloons and helium tanks, cake supplies and gift wrap.
The store will also sell a line of home decor items in its Canopy home furnishings section.
