Hermiston police officers responded to several burglary calls last week which resulted in the arrest of two juveniles.

Around 9 p.m. Aug. 23, Officer Billy Osborne responded to Armand Larive Middle School for a second alarm call during his shift; the other alarm was listed as a false alarm around 4 p.m. that same day.

Osborne canvassed the area around the school and peered inside where he could see two teen males walking towards him. He waited for them to exit the building and contacted the pair. The Hermiston boys, ages 12 and 13, were carrying stolen property when they were detained.

Just two days later, in the early morning hours of Aug. 25, officers contacted a 16-year-old male in the vicinity of Southeast Ninth Street and East Port Drive. The investigation led to the discovery the male had just participated in the burglary of a residence in the 800 block of southeast Eighth Street.

The young man and an accomplice stole a mountain bicycle, a cellular phone and a wallet. The 16-year-old was charged with first-degree burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, second-degree theft and minor in possession of alcohol by consumption. He was processed at the Bob Shannon Safety Center and lodged in the Umatilla County Juvenile Facility in Pendleton.

Police are still looking for the accomplice.

Edmiston warned people that the incident is a good example of what happens when people do not secure their homes before leaving or heading to bed.
