FFA Alumni prepare for dinner auction

For the eighth year in a row, Hermiston FFA Alumni will help current members with scholarships and travel expenses during the FFA Alumni Dinner and Auction, Saturday, Nov. 14.
The dinner and silent and live auction event starts at 6 p.m. with a pork loin dinner and silent auction with the live auction following at 7 p.m. in the purple gym in Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St.
Current FFA members will help serve dinner during the event.
“The funds support FFA?members throughout the year with scholarships, but also for their trips to the Oregon?State and National FFA Conventions,” said coordinator Emily Herringshaw.
Each year, the alumni approach 150 businesses both in and outside of the local area for donations with much of the work happening the past five months.
So far, 150 items have been donated including pheasant hunt tickets, metal art, a weekend getaway package, Portland Trail Blazers tickets, and tickets to both the Pendleton Round-Up Rodeo and Farm City Pro-Rodeo.
Hermiston resident Ford Bonney will again lead the bidding as auctioneer during the live auction portion of the evening.
“He’s really good and makes it fun for everyone,” Herringshaw said.
But those won’t be the only things available for sale at the auction.
“We’re also doing a FFA member sale where members are sold for labor,” Herringshaw said.
The auction will also have a rifle and several other items up for raffling as well.
Despite the tough economy, Herringshaw said the support for the auction is as strong as ever and is hopeful that will translate into a large attendance Saturday.
“Last year we had 250 people but we’re getting the word out sooner this year so we hope we’ll have 400 people attend this time,” she said.
