Helen Virginia Carlson Ryan, 94, of Baker City died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in Baker City.
Helen was born March 26, 1915, in Astoria to Swedish immigrants Victor and Verna Carlson, one of nine children. She was delivered at home along with her identical twin sister Margaret.
She knew from a young age that she wanted to work in medicine and earned a degree in x-ray technology. Her 43-year career in this field included working for several doctors and hospitals, both in Oregon and California. She had lived the past 17 years with her daughter Patty and son-in-law Mark Bogart and their family in Baker City.
She is survived by her children, Patty Bogart and Ken Ryan; two grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service and luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City. Family and friends are invited to share friendship and remembrances. A family graveside service will be held in Astoria at a later date.
