Edward Christian Skoubo

Edward Christian Skoubo, 91, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family on July 4. A day befitting a patriotic American veteran.

Mr. Skoubo was born in Portland to Ingvard and Anna Skoubo. He was raised with his brother Ralph and sister Fransces on the family homestead in Boardman. After graduating from Boardman High School, he worked on a dredge on the Columbia River and in road construction.

He fought as an infantryman with the 41st Division in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr Skoubo returned to Boardman after the war, where he farmed and drove school bus. He met and married Janet Luhrs, his wife of 49 years. Together they had 3 children, Roger, Dave and Jannell.

The family moved to Corvallis in 1962. He owned and operated Corvallis Commercial Sprayers until his retirement in 1981. He was active in the Corvallis Eagles and Santiam Fish and Game Associations.

Always proud of his military service, Mr. Skoubo was a volunteer in the 41st Division Association and the American Legion. He was a member of the Legion Honor Guard and on summer nights he could be found on the front row at Richey’s Market baseball games.

He is survived by his sister, Fransces Bissinger, of Pendleton; son, Dave and wife Mary of Corvallis; daughter, Jannell and husband, Walt Jensen of Cody, Wyoming; step sons, Jerry Getchell and wife Betty of Hermiston; and James Getchell and wife Sharon of Prosser, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet, and infant son, Roger and his brother, Ralph.

Following his wishes, there will be no local service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Boardman.
