If all goes well, Stanfield will have a new main source of water come Summer 2011.
The city’s water system improvement project is starting to get into motion with Anderson-Perry and Associates President Brad Baird and city manager Scott Pingel finishing the applications a Community Development Block Grant low interest loan from the Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund.
The total cost for the project is anticipated to be $3.65 million with applications due by June 30.
“We’re hoping that it will pay for the entire design phase,” Pingel said.
The new system will include a pipe leading to a new well near the Pilot Travel Center and a new reservoir that will eventually become the city’s main water supply, allowing for the older wells to be used as back-ups.
“We’ll then be able to do regular maintenance on the other wells without having to shut down the entire system,” Pingel said.
The new pipeline can also lead to future developemtn in the area out towards Pilot, which was not possible before due to the lack of a water system.
To qualify for the funding, the city had to prove the water system uprade would be predominantly used for residential services, something Pngel feels they were able to do.
After funding for the design phase is completed, the city will then move onto applying for construction funds on March 30, 2011.
“But once we know where we are in the design funding, we’ll hold another public forum for public comment,” Pingel said.
Anderson, Perry and Associates president Brad Baird said, who is assisting the city in its design process said once the design phase is finished, he and Pingel will work on the community block grant for the construction funds.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to go out for that during the first quater of next year, so we can go out for bids and start construction in 2011,” Baird said.
New construction isn’t the only progress Stanfield is making.
In June the city development the preliminary development of a new website for the city, www.cityofstanfield.com, with links to different city departments, the city calendar, city services and a new community newsletter.
