Ella Myrtle Gibson, 87, of The Dalles died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles.

Mrs. Gibson was born July 10, 1923, in Dayton, Ore., to Otis Franklin and Hazel Averta Brookshire. She attended schools in Battle Ground, Wash. She moved to Pilot Rock in 1950 with her family, and later to Pendleton. She later lived in Hermiston and Umatilla, and for the last five years she lived in The Dalles; she lived most of her life in Umatilla County.

She was a veteran, serving in the Marine Corps as a aircraft mechanic during World War II.

She worked at Eastern Oregon State Hospital, in the real estate, logging and farming Industries and for the U.S. Forest Service.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by son Otis Clayton Orr of Hermiston; sisters Joy McCord of Battle Ground, Wash., and Jeannie Camron of Apple Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Edgar D. Orr and Carl Gibson; son Edgar D. Orr II; sister Averta Turney; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston.
