Hermistons new family restaurant, Ixtapa, opened last week and is owned and operated by Teto Barajas, one of three brothers involved in the Oregon chain.
Barajas spent the last 14 years working at Ixtapa restaurants in The Dalles and Hood River before moving to Hermiston.
The spacious restaurant at 115 E. Oregon Ave. in Hermiston features a family atmosphere along with a bar area and traditional Mexican cuisine. The restaurant shares its name with a vacation resort on Mexicos Pacific coast, north of Acapulco. Ixtapa, like its sister city, Cancún, was developed in the 1970s as a government-planned tourist destination.
Ixtapa is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
