Dwight Martin “Marty” Weaver

Dwight Martin Marty Weaver, 83, died Monday, June 6, 2011. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at Crowfoot Baptist Church in Lebanon.

Mr. Weaver was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Harry and Eva Weaver. He joined the Navy in 1945. While stationed in Arlington, Va., he met and married Arta Jo Dumond.

He spent 22 years in the Navy as a cryptographer (code breaker) and retired in 1967. He received the Navy Commendation Medal, the highest honor awarded for noncombat service. He and his family lived on naval bases around the world.

After retiring, he worked as a bookkeeper, security guard and maintenance man/assistant director for Boise Christian Homes. After moving to Hermiston, he and Arta Jo become co-owners of the Living Word Bookstore and worked there until 1992.

Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arta Jo Weaver; children Shawn Wells, Julie Hansen and Scott Weaver; sister Emma Webb; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by son Gregg Weaver, four brothers and three sisters.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope of the Nations, a mission close to his heart, in care of Arta Jo Weaver, 1560 S.E. Davidson St., #323, Albany, OR 97322.
