Mabbott to head special programs

Joanne Mabbott will be replacing Shawn Worstell as the Hermiston School District’s Special Programs  Director.

At the regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday night, the board voted to appoint Mabbott to the position, effective July 1.

Assistant superintendent Bryn Browning said in a press release, Seventeen applications were submitted for this position, making it an extremely competitive posting. After a thorough screening review, four candidates were selected to participate in the interview process, which consisted of several program staff, school board members, and administrators. Upon completion of the interviews, the interview team reached unanimous consensus that Mrs. Joanne Mabbott was the best candidate to join the districts instructional support team.

Mabbott received her bachelor’s of education degree from Oregon State University.

She worked as a special education coordinator for the Northwest Regional Education Service District before moving on to the Hillsboro School District.

Most recently, she had served as an administrator for Portland Public Schools since 2008.

Mabbott earned her master’s in education through Portland State University and her administrative certificate from Lewis and Clark College.
