Irrigon resident Donald Garrett Dyer, 63, was killed in a traffic crash involving a motorcyle and van on Monday, June 20, on Highway 730 in Irrigon.
According to OSP Sergeant Seth Cooney, at approximately 5:17 p.m. a 1995 Ford van driven by Gary Lynn Ball, 58, of Irrigon, was westbound on Highway 730 attempting to turn left toward Division Street. The van turned into the path of an eastbound 1990 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Dyer. The motorcycle collided nearly head-on into the van’s right front section.
Dyer was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet.
Ball was transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Passenger Michelle Ball, 56, was not injured. Both were using safety restraints and the van’s air bags deployed.
