Former Hermiston resident Ernie Louie Ribail, 81, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home in Grandview, Wash. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mr. Ribail was born May 21, 1930, in Sunnyside, Wash., to French immigrant parents Daniel and Lea Robert Ribail. He was raised in a sheep herding family and attended school in Sunnyside, Wash., with the class of 1948.

He married Mary Lee Van de Vanter in 1952; they later divorced. In 1965 he married Betty Parmele and adopted her sons, Steve and Kelly. They also divorced, and he married Dovie Mattox in 1995. She passed away in 2004. Later that year he was reacquainted with Mary Lou Kearney Schut, an old girlfriend; they were married in 2005 in Sunnyside, Wash., and have lived in Grandview since.

He worked as a equipment operator for Pacific Power & Light for 40 years before retiring.

Mr. Ribail is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Ribail of Sunnyside, Wash.; sons Steve and Kelly Ribail; stepsons Harold Mattox and Randall Schut; stepdaughters Chrystal Cawile, Rene Carlson, Anita Marrs and Katrina Hagert; numerous grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dovie Ribail; his parents; sisters Helen Maling and Aliene Gangwish; and brother Robert Ribail.
