Hermiston LL team falls short

Hermistons 12U Little League softball team was eliminated from the Oregon Little League state tournament on Tuesday in Gresham.
The ballclub, coached by Dave Padilla, lost to the host team in extra innings, 3-2, to stop their quest for a state title.
Most of the players on the team have won three straight titles at the district level, and were literally one out from claiming a state crown last year as an 11U squad.
In the bottom of the eighth and the bases loaded, a sudden downpour dumped rain on the field and sent the teams back to their dugouts.
But when play resumed, Greshams Alexis Baty smacked a single that plated the game-winning run to keep the host team alive, and send the Hermiston team packing.
The coaches and parents are all proud of the girls for winning two games at the state tournament, Padilla said.
Hermiston out-hit Gresham, 8-7, and was led by Kynzee Padilla (3 for 4), Mikayla Kopacz (2 for 4) and Kylie Harrison (2 for 3).
