Leonard N. Crume, 90, of Hermiston died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at his home. A celebration of life service was held Thursday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at Burns Mortuary chapel in Hermiston.
Mr. Crume was born June 22, 1921, in Winner, S.D., to Leonard A. and Lena (Balm) Crume. He was raised in South Dakota and as a young man moved to La Grande. He moved to Hermiston in the early 1940s and worked at Hanford during World War II.
He owned a farm, which he later sold to start his own business, Leonard Crume Dump Trucks. He owned and operated his trucking business until retiring in 1983. During this time, he built Dun Rollin Trailer Park in Hermiston and a laundromat in Pendleton. He later sold the businesses.
He married LaVerne Bullock in 1980 in Benton City, Wash. They have lived in Hermiston since.
Mr. Crume is survived by his wife, LaVerne Crume of Hermiston; sons Larry Crume of San Francisco, Calif., Les Crume of Depoe Bay and Shane Crume of Hermiston; daughter Ruth Loveland of Portland; brothers Lareece and Lew Crume, both of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters Lena Weisser of Portland, Lavada Forbes of Hermiston, Lanona Harpster of Umatilla, Loretta Erager of Vancouver, Wash., and Lydia McFarland of Bend; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Lester and Leroy.
