Several area athletes named to all-NWC academic squad

Hermiston High School graduate and current George Fox

University midfielder Omar Medina was named to the Northwest

Conference all-Academic team for the 2010-11 year.

Medina, whom transferred from Columbia Basin College

to the NCAA Division III colege in Newberg, posted a 3.79

cumulative grade point average last year and is majoring in social

work.

He logged 135 minutes for the Bruins in eight matches

and was able to fire off one shot for the winless club last

season.

Another Hermiston product, Ian McMichael, also made

the NWCs all-academic team. His GPA of 3.96 put him on the mens

tennis list. He is majoring in German.

Lexingtons Sarah Stillman, a graduate of Ione High

School, made the womens track and field all-academic list in her

freshman year representing the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma,

Wash. She is majoring in international political economics.

In order to qualify for the distinction, students

must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above and have participated

throughout the varsity athletic season.
