The residents of Desert Sage Manor at 986 W. Juniper in Hermiston will host a luncheon Aug. 18 from 1-3 p.m. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF).

There will be several speakers at the event, including police officers, Hermiston Mayor Bob Severson and the RHF CEO.

Twenty-four apartments make up Desert Sage Manor, a place for seniors, 62 and older, to rent housing. Residents donate time to Project H.A.N.D.S. and make donations to the Hermiston Police Department. Bonnie Engle, a tenant at Manor, has donated more than 500 quilts to the Police Department.

RHF began with $7,000 and the dreams of two clergymen from the United Church of Christ. Desert Sage Manor has grown to 158 communities throughout the United States, serving more than 17,000 adults and families.
