Junk turned treasure this weekend as more than 1,000 people made the drive to the Junk Barn Girls Vintage Barn Sale outside of Stanfield.

Shannon Snyder and Angela Ditchen organized the event after attending a similar sale, the Farm Chicks show in Spokane, but said they were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who came out.

It went better than we anticipated, Snyder said Monday. We had about 1,200 people come through. Everybody seemed to be enjoying it. We had a lot of good comments thanking us for bringing this to the community.

The two-day sale featured 23 vendors from Oregon and Washington and a large assortment of vintage, antique and unique items. One of those vendors was Gathered Over Time proprietor Dottie Sheffield, of Echo.

Its been wonderful, Sheffield said Friday. Business have been good, shoppers have been happy. Its really been a positive experience.

Ditchen said she would like to make the Junk Barn Girls sale an annual event and would like to see event more vendors next year.

We didnt know what to expect doing this the first time, she said Friday. I think its been a success, and weve learned a lot.

Snyder and Ditchen took time to thank both the vendors and the visitors who came out to the sale, and Snyder added an extra thank-you to some of the people behind the scenes.

Even though Angela and I headed this up, we couldnt have done it without our parents and our husbands, she said. We had both of our sets of parents there working too. We put our family to work, and theyve been great.

Although the next Junk Barn Girls event is a year away, Snyder and Ditchen are organizing a smaller open house with local vendors for the holidays. That event will take place Dec. 3 at the same location, 77975 Moorehouse Road. For directions, visit www.junkbarngirls.com.
