Hermistons Stetson Iverson scored a 7-1 decision against Hood River Valleys Charlie Mallon to sew up a 39-25 wrestling dual victory Thursday at The Dawg House.

Iverson pushed the Dawgs ahead 35-25 with the three points from his decision in the 120-pound match, making the final bout of the night between Hermistons CJ Dircksen and HRVs Katie Eddy inconsequential in deciding the dual.

Dircksen scored nine takedowns in the 126-pound match to dispatch Eddy by major decision, 19-6.

Hermiston won eight of the 13 contested matches with the 220-pound bot going to HRV via forfeit.

Issac Aguilar (113 pounds), Tyler Berger (138), Joey Delgado (145) and Abraham Rodriguez (160) all won by fall to account for 24 of Hermistons total points.

That was a great dual. We knew it was going to be close, Hermiston head coach Curt Berger said. Hood River Valley is a very well-coached team but it ended like we thought it would.

Delgado and Hood River Valleys Cesar Zarate ended up battling into the third round. Delgado built a 10-3 lead until he was able to roll his opponent into a pin with 1:23 left in the match, but hes still feeling a little of the sickness he dealt with during the Resers Tournament of Champions last weekend.

I need to take this week to get better, Delgado said. I havent been able to push the tempo like I usually do.

After the win, Delgados career record went to an astounding 177-3.

Thats quite a number, Coach Berger said of his seniors win total. Its definitely one of the best careers Ive seen.

Berger, Aguilar and Rodriguez all had fairly easy times with their opponents. None of those matches made it past the first round.

Berger racked up six takedowns before he pinned Chas Peterson with one second remaining and Rodriguez scored five points in the first 11 seconds before he sent Steven Swafford on his way with a pin at 1:24.

Aguilar put Frannie Ybarras back to the mat at the 1:49 mark of the first period after he built a 5-0 lead with a takedown and a 3-point nearfall.

Perhaps the most competitive match of the night came at the heavyweight division. Hermistons Armando Garcia was outlasted in overtime by HRVs Brandon Dominguez, 3-1.

Garcia was able to score an escape point in the final period of regulation to force the extra session, but Dominguez scored a takedown to take the sudden-death victory.

For three seniors, Lupe and Joey Delgado along with CJ Dircksen, it was their last home event of their careers.

Next week will be a busy one for the Dawgs with their final two league duals. Tuesday they will travel to The Dalles Wahtonka to make up the Jan. 19 postponement due to weather, then Thursday another installment of the rivalry will be held at Warberg Court in Pendleton. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.

While Coach Berger said both duals should be competitive, he said the one against Pendleton should be one thats not decided until the final match.

Its going to be a good one, he said.
