Council concerns come a little late
In an article in the Herald, Councilor Harkenrider was sad the City of Hermiston would have to spend money on a recall election. A simple solution would be for the five of you on the recall to resign.
As far as the defensive rhetoric against the haters and losers, please choose your words carefully. These are your constituents who are displeased. You are circling the wagons by patronizing us with a sudden burst of get friendly committees. Its a bit late, dont you think? I just wish Councilor Harkenrider and other councilors had equal concerns when spending millions of dollars on major projects.
I challenge each councilor to prove they ever voted against any budget item, capital expenditure, infrastructure expense or city managers contract that the city manager presented to you for your passage. You should exclude housekeeping votes such as adjournment.
It is my opinion the council in general and several councilors specifically lack the heart to vote against the city manager. Your votes have been in total lock-step with him for years. I have the same concern with the council and its head in the sand regarding the police as I do its relationship with the city manager. Who among you has ever requested and ouside audit of various city funds such as HES and relating fund transfers with UEC? Dont you think it would be prudent, say at least once a decade? This is just good management and would be better for you to call for than me.
Just when I think it cant get any worse I read the council will question all seven applicants for the open council position. Guess what? First they want a team player (euphemism for Dont Rock the Boat) and then Brookshier announces the interviews. Come on people, the city manager should not even be in the loop. Looks like he will appoint another ally like, say, George Anderson.
