Hermiston American Legion baseball tryout coming up
Published 5:10 pm Tuesday, February 14, 2012
The Hermiston American Legion Baseball program will hold a preseason tryout for interested ballplayers at 10 a.m. Feb. 25 at Weber Field.
The tryout is geared toward players introducing themselves to some of the coaching staff and it will allow them to follow potential players through their high school seasons.
Any players that turned 19 on or after January 1, 1993 are eligible to play for the Eastern Oregon Spuds, the newly-formed Legion Class AAA team that combines Pendleton, Hermiston and the outlying areas.
The Hermiston-area only teams, the 17U Heat and 16U Shockers, will draw from Hermiston, Stanfield, Echo, Umatilla, Boardman, Irrigon and Heppner like last season.
Cutoff dates for those squads are Jan. 1, 1995 for the Heat and Jan. 1, 1996 for the Shockers.
Fundraising opportunities are available through the program for players that need help paying the player fee.
