The Hermiston School District is expected to announce the results of recent interviews for Hermiston High School principal on Monday.
HHS Principal Buzz Brazeau will be leaving the position June 30, and district groups unanimously recommended looking in-house for a replacement.
Jocelyn Jones, of Boardman, was the only applicant for the position. Jones has been one of HHS two assistant principals since 2008.
About 20 people attended a meet and greet with Jones on Tuesday night at Hermiston High School.
Im not Buzz. Im not going to fit into his shoes, no way, shape or form, Jones told the group. There is no replacing Buzz. Hes a character. I have a different set of skills.
A former health and physical education teacher, Jones stressed her involvement with curriculum and instruction at the high school, as well as her straightforward methods.
I am not a warm and fuzzy person, I am not going to sit down and B.S. with you, but my door is always open, she said. Kids, parents, staff can come in and were going to take care of business. Im very straightforward, so I may not tell you a story along the way, but we will take care of business.
Calling curriculum her passion, Jones said she would maintain control over that area if named principal. Some of Brazeaus duties would be moved to the assistant principals to compensate for the shift.
Its all about playing to our strengths, Jones said. I really believe we can still cover all our areas. We each have specific tasks, things we do well. Were not all alike, and thats a big strength of our admin team. Well just have to put the pieces back together.
The Hermiston School Districts formal interview committee met with Jones after the meet and greet and has made a unanimous recommendation to interim Superintendent Wade Smith.
Thursday, Smith said he is in the process of working with school board members to finalize the districts next steps and expects an announcement to be made Monday.
