Two from county ‘Most Wanted’ list nabbed in Hermiston

Hermiston Police arrested two men Thursday who were on Umatilla County’s Most Wanted list.
After a foot pursuit that started inside Wal-Mart and spanned three blocks, police arrested Antonio Pete Espino, 22, of Hermiston. An officer used a stun gun on Espino before he was taken into custody. One officer also suffered a severely sprained ankle in the incident and is on worker’s compensation.
Espino has prior convictions of first-degree mischief, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary and a parole violation according to Umatilla County’s Most Wanted Web page. Espino was lodged at Umatilla County Jail on a parole violation warrant from another agency and resisting arrest.
Also arrested Thursday was Efren Castro Aguilar, 31. Aguilar was apprehended at his East Elm Avenue residence and arrested on another agency’s warrant for a probation violation and a Hermiston Municipal Court warrant for contempt of court. Aguilar has a prior conviction of possession of a controlled subtance.
Also Thursday, police collected two packages of methamphetamine and a glass methamphetamine pipe from a Hermiston man in the parking lot of Fuddrucker’s Restaurant. Jason Michael Francisco Garza was arrested on two outstanding warrants and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Garza was lodged at Umatilla County Jail.
Hermiston PD netted another meth-related arrest on Wednesday.
A woman was arrested and later released on a drug-related charge during an investigation of a domestic violence report.
Sagrario Velasco Cortez, 24, of Hermiston was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. Police collected methamphetamine while investigating a report of domestic violence. The substance was sent to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
In other police news, four internal candidates for sergeant and one new person crimes detective will be announced on Aug. 27, according to Chief Jason Edmiston.
