The Hermiston girls soccer team split a pair matches in the season-opening weekend, beating Umatilla 5-1 at home Friday and losing 4-0 to Kamiakin (Wash.) in Kennewick on Saturday.

Against the Vikings, Hermiston actually trailed in the early portion of the match, but after Daisy Risueno scored the equalizer, Swedish exchange student Lollo Jansson and all-state midfielder Maggie Coleman each scored a pair of goals to seal the win.

It wasnt like the Dawgs didnt have plenty of chances early on, they just couldnt get anything to go in the net.

During the first ten minutes of the match, the Dawgs were able to crack off nine shots, and as head coach Danielle MacBride said, it was only a matter of time before a few of those shots found their way behind the keeper.

I knew it was going to happen, she said. You can have that many opportunities and not have one or two fall.

At Lampson Stadium on Saturday against the Braves, Hermiston was just overwhelmed in defeat.

Kamiakin outshot the Dawgs 23-9 and the Braves Ellie Heiden scored two goals.

Hermiston headed back across the border Tuesday to take on Hanford in Richland, and lost 5-0. They are now 1-2 on the year.
