MYERS: An objection to Anderson’s letter

I find myself compelled to respond to George Andersons most recent letter posted in the Sept. 15 letters to the editor. His directed personal attacks towards these three good and honest people who chose to run for Hermiston City Council is nothing short of outrageous.
I have had the pleasure of getting to meet each of the three although I do not know them well, or on a personal level. I find them all to be honest, fair-minded citizens that we should all be proud to call them productive, responsible members of our community. Each in their own way have contributed enormously to the wellbeing of our community, whether it be through their jobs, churches or charitable involvement.
Let me be perfectly clear in my next statement. None of them deserve to be attacked by George Anderson in this manner. Especially by a sitting Hermiston City Councilor with half truths, inaccuracies, slanted by his vitriol and personal opinions of individuals he barely knows if at all. These three had every legal right to agree with and support the recall effort, or not. It should be noted that signing the recall petition did not mean that you voted one way or the other during the actual recall election. It simply meant you supported the right to have a free election process, to then have the right to cast your vote as provided under both state and federal election laws.
I am personally appalled at the fact that George Anderson either freely obtained, sought out or was provided a copy of the recall petitions. It appears by this attack that he now has his own personal hit list as to who should publicly be called out or discredited by him a sitting City Councilor an appointed one at that by anyone who may disagree with him. He has real specifics in his letter; Mr. Kirwan was a recall signer. God forbid!
Whats next Mr. Anderson? Lets see recall signer 64 is a local contractor who does work for the city. We should certainly keep him from working for the city shouldnt we?
Or how about recall signer number 256? She wants to build a new business and rezone her property. Hmm, maybe the city really doesnt need to support her either do they?
How about recall signer 589? He is a local business owner who is a vendor to the city. Shouldnt the city start buying from a business who didnt support the recall?
How about recall signer 880, Mr. Anderson? She wants to use the city park for a wedding, and she needs your approval. Lets tell her no!
Many city officials have been boycotting my businesses (yourself included) for years so I just assume blackballing is business as usual for you.
The fact of the matter is nearly 1,000 good people, taxpayers, honest God loving souls who love this town as much as anyone, chose to show dissent against actions by the city, its officers and police chief by signing the recall petitions. It does not make any of them bad people. The last time I checked they are a free people with rights, including the right to vote. It was a very close election I may add, nearly 50-50 in at least two of the recalls. You do realize that every other person you walk by on the street who votes wanted them removed from office dont you?
Hermiston is a good town made up of good people even if they may be on opposite sides of the fence on certain issues. I have many customers and friends who did not support the recall but would never do anything as outrageous as you have done. You are an embarrassment to the city council and owe these three candidates an apology. The longer you continue to attack good people by your ridiculous letters and outbursts the city will never heal. You are basically throwing gas on a fire which had fortunately began to subside to mere smoldering embers.
Your actions are childish and beneath your age and profession. In grade school they called it bullying.
