- Drake, a 4-year-old pit bull, looks pretty in a yellow and blue tutu during the pet parade Sept. 22, 2012, at Hermiston's Own Saturday Market. Guardian Angel Homes invites people to enter a pet parade for a chance to win prizes on Sept. 13, 2024, at the assisted living facility in Hermiston.
Hermistons Own Saturday Market hosted its first pet parade on Saturday, and organizer Jordawn Wambeke plans to bring the event back next year.
We hadnt ever done anything like that, Wambeke said. A parade in Silverton, Wash., was the inspiration for the event, which drew 26 participants to the market.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes and even a chicken paraded around the market with their owners.
Winners were judged in three categories Cutest, most unusual and look-alike.
The award for cutest animal and owner went to TLee Burke and her dog Diva. Dressed in pink socks, the dog matched her owner, who also wore bright pink.
Juliann Bruce and her dog, Dozer, was awarded winner of the look-alike contest. Bruce and Dozer were both dressed in bright orange scarves and camouflage shirts.
The award for most unusual went to Chasity Hancock and her chicken, Angel.
Next year, Wambeke wants to expand the categories for participants.
Yo Country sponsored the event. All participants received discount certificates for frozen yogurt.
Its a fun fall thing, Wambeke said. I like animals anyway so it was really fun just to see them all.
