Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston has asked the owner of Smoke City, a local tobacco and accessories store, to comply with the citys recently amended ordinance.
The City Council recently amended an ordinance making it illegal to, among other things, sell items that could be used as drug paraphernalia within 1,000 feet of a school. The owner of Smoke City, Ibrahim Jaber, of Kennewick, Wash., whose business is directly across from Sunset Elementary, has told police he will comply with the ordinance.
We have asked Smoke City to come into compliance with the city ordinance that was passed on the eighth, Edmiston said. The owner has expressed an interest in working with us.
Edmiston asked that Jaber comply with the ordinance within 90 days.
We will continue to monitor this, Edmiston said.
Smoke City has been registered as a business with the Secretary of States office since July of 2012.
