Phyllis May Rose, 93, of Kennewick, died September 13, 2013. The fourth of six children, she was born on a homestead in Norris, Montana, on Mothers Day, May 9, 1920, to Herbert and Estella (Rowe) Hudson. In 1924 the family moved to Dayton, Wash., where Phyllis attended public school and graduated from Pietrzycki High School in 1938.

She attended N.N.C. Normal School in Nampa, Idaho, and obtained her teaching certificate in 1940. She taught two years at the rural Bramwell School near Emmett, Idaho, and enjoyed substitute teaching in later years in Oregon and in Kennewick.

Phyllis married Lee Rose of Emmett, Idaho, on February 15, 1941, in Boise, Idaho. They raised a family of nine children, residing at various times in Emmett and Preston, Idaho; Dayton, Wash.; Hermiston, Oregon, and since 1967 in Kennewick, Wash. Their nine children hosted their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991.

She was a member of the Kennewick Cascade Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has filled many leadership and teaching positions and taught church Seminary classes in Hermiston for five years under the direction of the B.Y.U. Education System.

She enjoyed family gatherings, playing games with her children and grandchildren, sports, fishing, reading and studying, writing poetry and doing genealogy.

Phyllis is survived by six sons and three daughters and their spouses: Michael and Dawn Rose, Hoquiam, Wash.; Gerald Rose, Kennewick, Wash.; Roger and Linda Rose, Chehalis, Wash.; Lee Rose Jr.; Kennewick, Wash.; Greg and Lynn Rose, Richland, Wash.; Dennis and Carol Rose, Kennewick, Wash.; Diane Gett, Kennewick, Wash.; Patricia Morris, Provo, Utah; and Karen and Dean Pratt, Kennewick, Wash. She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Rose Sr.; her parents; four brothers: Herbert, Chester, David and Robert Hudson, and a sister: Ethel Bailey; precious grandchildren Troy Rose, Angela Rose, Lee Rose III, Brian Morris; great-granddaughter Skye Horton; and daughters-in-law JoAnn Rose and Marne Rose.

Visitations will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Muellers Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union in Kennewick. Viewing will also be Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. at the church prior to services.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 45th and Olympia Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hermiston City Cemetery in Hermiston, Oregon.
