Box R Ranch lending a helping hand in the firefight

Near Green Springs, Ore.– For the first time in her ten years living in the Green Springs. Jennifer Watson felt she had to leave her home and bring her beloved horses Valentine and Jake with her.

“Just to take a little edge off and free my trailer in case I do need to evacuate we can continue packing that,” said Watson.

Watson is taking refuge at the nearby Box R Ranch. It’s just two miles south of where thousands of acres are burning.

“Box R ranch is used to hosting a lot of people unfortunately this is a kind of event we don’t hope for,” said Jeanne Randall.

Randall is part of the Box R Ranch family and says they’ll do what they can to help keep their community safe.

“43 years and we’ve seen a lot but we’ve not seen a fire this close.”

The Oregon Gulch fire burning thousands of acres in the Cascade- Siskiyou National Monument Friday.

Box R Ranch is serving as a hell abase for crews to fight the blaze from the air.

“Back in the day it was used by pioneers to blaze trails and an encampment here so now 150 years later its being used for a really important service for out community,” said Randall.

Jennifer Watson said she’s thankful for the help and a safe place to keep her babies.

“I’m hoping they get this contained and we see more air attacks,” said Watson.

Randall also said the Ashland YMCA had a camp at Box R Ranch this week but they got home safe Friday morning.
