Katie Jane Schaefer and Christopher Thomas Arnich, both of Portland, exchanged wedding vows June 20, 2014, at Vista Hills Vineyard in Dayton, Ore. Pastor Jonathon Wallace of Imago Dei Community Church officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride’s parents are Mike and Pat Schaefer of Hermiston. The groom’s parents are Tom and Cindy Arnich of Gladstone, Ore.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her proud father.

Matron of honor was Barb McMahon of Hermiston, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Stacy Schaefer of Hermiston and Sarah Schaefer of Erie, Pa., sisters of the bride; Kelly Arnich of Portland, sister of the groom; Whitney McMahon of Hermiston, niece of the bride; and Sarah Stanzione of Portland and Brenda Gilbertz of Spokane, Wash., friends of the bride.

Best man was Ken Tse of Portland, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Mark Schaefer of Erie, Pa., Rob Schaefer of Hermiston and Matt Schaefer of Beaverton, brothers of the bride; Chris McMahon of Hermiston, brother-in-law of the bride; and Phil Hiller of Portland and Erik Hiller of Los Angeles, friends of the groom.

Flower girls were Bethany and Kelsie Schaefer of Hermiston, and Ava Schaefer of Erie, Pa., nieces of the bride.

A scripture reading was given by the bride’s grandmother, Jane Sloan of Carmel, Ind. Music was provided by Dan Sloan of Carmel, uncle of the bride, and Pat Schaefer, mother of the bride, who wrote and sang a special song for her daughter and new son-in-law.

Katie wore a strapless gown of light ivory chiffon with asymmetrical draping that featured a satin sash entwined with jewels and an attached sweep train. The veil, accented with lace trim, was made for her by her mother-in-law from the veil that was worn by Katie’s mother at her wedding. The bride’s bouquet featured orange roses, calla lilies and dahlias accented by ribbons that were also from Katie’s mother’s veil.

In lieu of the customary unity candle, the couple assembled a Unity Cross that will be displayed in their home.

A reception and dancing was held on the Vista Hills Vineyard grounds following the ceremony. The couple received a sparkler sendoff from their wedding party and guests. After a honeymoon in Maui, Hawaii, the couple resides in Portland.

Katie, a 2000 Hermiston High School graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Gonzaga University in 2004. She earned her Master of Social Work in 2009 from Portland State University. She is employed with the Children’s Cancer Association as a Chemo Pal program specialist in Portland.

Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance from Portland State University in 2004. He is employed in Portland as regional director for the CRC Health Group.
