Clifford and Carla Brooke of Hermiston and California recently celebrated 50 years of marriage at a party hosted by their children in Walnut Creek, Calif. They were married April 17, 1965, in Reno, Nev.

Clifford worked as a butcher and then as a truck driver for Safeway for 27 years. Carla worked as a meat wrapper for Safeway, and then moved to the checkstand, before retiring after 35 years of service.

Their secret to a long marriage? “Love with all your heart and don’t go to bed mad.”
