Betty Lou Gillpatrick, a resident of Pendleton, passed away on September 27, 2017. She was born on January 19, 1938, in Portland, Oregon. She was the second born and first girl to Lewis and Vera (Lubbes) Bush. Seven more siblings joined the family and together they spent a lot of time farming on their family farm in Hermiston.
She graduated from Hermiston High School in 1957. She married Marvin Zemmer and had two children; they later divorced. Betty remarried on July 10, 2009, to Cecil (Gill) Gillpatrick, also welcoming another daughter.
She was an avid hunter along with an accomplished pool player. She could hold her own in a game of pool competing in multiple tournaments and active in league play. She was famous for Pepsi balls and pea salad. Her family remembers that she could always make a meal from nothing.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, brother Tom Bush, stepson Chad Gillpatrick, and stepgrandson Ian Gillpatrick.
Survived by her husband Gill; siblings Herman (Jan) Bush, Bill (Sylvia) Bush, Jim (Kathy) Bush, Drake Bush, Beverly Ray, Helen Bush and Schellia Bush; children Kim Zemmer, Kevin (Melanie) Zemmer and Heather Gillpatrick (Jason Messmore); grandchildren Kalyn Sloan, Jessy Church, Tiffani Nalivka, Jake Zemmer, Caleb Zemmer, Logan Bates, Jesse Gillpatrick, Christopher Gillpatrick, Austen Barnes, Autumn Barnes and Jakey Gillpatrick; and great-grandchildren Kody Sloan, Khloe Powers, Mackenzie Nalivka, Henry Nalivka and Dominic Gillpatrick.
A celebration of Betty Lou’s life will be held at the Pendleton Fraternal Order of Eagles on October 14, 2017, at 2 p.m.
