Donald passed quietly in his sleep with family at his side.
Donald was born in Caldwell, Idaho, to James and Olive Adams Smith of Hermiston, Oregon. Donald moved from Caldwell to Hermiston when he was in the fourth grade and graduated high school there.
He served in the Army and afterwards returned home married, and to this union were born four daughters; Alaina and Alvin Johnson of Las Cruces, N.M., Ladonna Hopkins, Janet Smith of Weiser, Idaho, and Beth Smith of Battle Mountain, Nevada.
During his adventure-filled life he loved many things; family, flying, driving trucks.
Don remarried in 1974 to Norma (Ware) Woodie, which lasted 45 years. Until he took his last breath, Norma was the love of his life.
Don has a very extensive family, which in his mind included blood family, married family and everyone he befriended. Don looked on all of these relationships as very important and a gift.
Don was also survived by four siblings: Marvin Smith, Retta Poulson, Mike Smith of Hermiston, Oregon, and Sandy Storz of Echo, Oregon. Also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A life celebration will be held at Weiser Senior Center on January 12, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come, remember and celebrate a wonderful man.
The family of Don wants to personally express their deep and eternal gratitude for the the exceptional care provided during his last day to the West Valley Hospital and extraordinary staff of the ICU.
During his life Don truly enjoyed the broadcast services of PBS Idaho. His loving wife has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation be sent to PBS, 1455 N. Orchard St., Boise, ID 83706. In the memo line on the checks please note Donald Smith.
