Updated COVID-19 risk assessments announced

The Oregon Health Authority updated its assessment of each county’s risk levels on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Umatilla County remains under the extreme risk category for the next two weeks along with 23 other counties, while Morrow County moved from extreme risk to high risk. Seven counties are considered “low risk” based on their COVID-19 cases, test positivity and community spread.

Umatilla County announced its 55th death of a patient with COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The victim was a 75-year-old man who tested positive Dec. 17 and died Dec. 21 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. He had underlying medical conditions.

The county announced 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Dec. 29, bringing it up to 5,441 since its first confirmed case in March. Morrow County announced two new cases, for a total of 796 since March.
