Umatilla County had 71 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the seven days between Wednesday, Feb. 24, and Tuesday, March 2, according to the regional dashboard on Umatilla County Public Health’s website.

The county has reported 7,671 cases and 82 deaths since the pandemic began.

The dashboard shows Morrow County reported 14 new cases in the same time period. The county has reported 1,049 cases and 14 deaths since the pandemic began.

Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority has reported 155,787 cases and 2,212 deaths of people with COVID-19 since the state’s first reported case on Feb. 28, 2020.

“For so many Oregonians, after living through the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires, flooding, severe winter weather, and a long-overdue reckoning on racism and racial justice, our lives are far different than they were on February 28, one year ago,” Gov. Kate Brown said in a statement marking the one-year anniversary of the state’s first confirmed case.

“Through it all, I have been inspired by the way Oregonians have pulled together and helped one another. Because of your smart choices to protect friends and family, Oregon has maintained some of the lowest infection, hospitalization, and death rates in the nation throughout the pandemic.”

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Oregon has had the second lowest total per capita COVID-19 cases out of the 50 states, after Hawaii.
