- Veronica Flores, right, and her wife Chacha Flores prepare food Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, during a fundraiser at their restaurant, Vero’s Kravingz in Hermiston. The fundraiser was for the funeral expenses of Chacha’s mother, who died last week.
Vero’s Kravingz, he tiny restaurant at 1725 N. First St., Hermiston, typically is busy. When it reopened this past weekend, however, it was even busier than usual. People gathered outside the door, waiting their turn to enter. Finally, when customers were able to enter, they met the restaurant owner and her wife with loving greetings and condolences.
Irene Flores Jr., the mother-in-law of the owner, Veronica Flores, had died.
A collage of photos of Irene Flores was near the door, as was a stuffed tip jar. People made contributions to help pay for funeral expenses. Also, they shared stories, laughing and crying about a loved one who had meant a great deal to many people.
