From the editor’s desk: Graduations celebrated in area

If you have some graduating kids in the area, the latest issue of the Hermiston Herald will be of particular interest to you.

We have tons of photos of graduations — Hermiston High School, Stanfield High School and Blue Mountain Community College.

The Hermiston pics are especially great, as they were taken by superstar photographer Kathy Aney. So check them out.

The Herald had some important story content, too. Flooding is harming the area, perhaps hitting Echo worst of all. We went out to Echo to speak with a landowner, the city administrator and other concerned people.

We’re worried for these people, their homes and other property. Fortunately, good people are coming to the rescue, and we hope it’s not too late.

Likewise, we are worried, too, about the state of emergency declared by Morrow County commissioners. Commissioner Jim Doherty is discovering that drinking water is polluted to a dangerous level. We heard from the commissioner, and we reported on what he told us.

Keep an eye on the Herald, both in print and online. By the time you see this, you’ll see our report on the Eastern Oregon Economic Summit, which closed Friday, June 17.
