Former Hermiston resident Tiffany Maddox opened the business in Paterson, Washington, and now plans to bring it to her hometown.

A Hermiston native is planning to return to her hometown to open a coffee shop.

Most local people probably remember Tiffany Maddox for having grown up in Hermiston and having been a hair stylist in town for 16 years. That was before she met her husband, Jamey Maddox, and moved to Paterson, Washington. She joined him there on his family farm, where they grow and do custom cutting and bailing for other farms in the area, she said.

Her dreams, however, included more than haircutting and farming.

“I have always had an interest in the coffee industry but owning and operating a coffee shop was a new adventure for me and my family,” she said. “I had envisioned this small-town coffee shop with big dreams to make a difference, inspire and connect with people all around us.”

Maddox opened Farm Grounds Coffee in July 2019 in Paterson. But she said she wanted to do more.

“Hermiston is my hometown, and I still have many ties to the area, including close friends and family,” she said. “The Hermiston community supported me growing up so I thought this was my chance to give back by bringing what Farm Grounds Coffee has to offer.”

Maddox said she has seen special things during her three years of running a shop in Paterson — “the love and passion my team has to offer, the customer relationships we have gained and the importance of community support.”

Since opening in Paterson, the business has done food drives and a giving tree at Christmastime to help local families in need, she said.

She added that she intends to bring all of these good things with her to the new location, planned at 236 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston.

Hermiston Farm Grounds Coffee is planned to have a two-window drive-thru and one walk-up window.

The projected date is January 2023, “but you know how things can go,” she said. “But we’re shooting for January. Not sure on an exact day yet.”

Maddox added she plans on hiring at least four to five employees for the Hermiston location.

The Farm Grounds Coffee website, farmgroundscoffee221.com, includes a menu of beverages.

“The drink menu I offer now is what we will offer at our second location,” Maddox said. “There will be some changes as I like to bring the community and surrounding area as inspiration for our menu.”

She said that in Paterson, Farm Grounds has drinks named after customers and do monthly specials inspired by our customers. She said she plans the same thing for Hermiston.

Her food offerings include breakfast sandwiches,

breakfast burritos, bagels and muffins.
