With the completion of the new Hermiston City Hall, local residents were given something to celebrate. This was not the only things going on in town, however, and the Hermiston Herald had many things to cover.

HERMISTON CITY HALL

As people toured the new Hermiston City Hall, they had a lot of good things to say. Government officials, local residents and other visitors walked the corridors Monday, Oct. 10, for the building’s grand opening.

The mayor boasted of the new building, calling it “attractive.” He complimented the lighting and he said it would provide a “healthy working environment” for government employees.

STEP CENTER

A couple of blocks away from City Hall, the Horizon Project STEP Center for Independent Living hosted a grand opening as it was expanding its services in Hermiston to assist more people. The center hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at its Hermiston building, 408 E. Main St., Thursday, Oct. 6.

RINK DAMAGE

Not all the news was happy though, as damage was done to the roller rink in Hermiston. Someone had broken a window and torn out an air conditioning unit in an apparent attempt to break into the building. The owners said that it could postpone the rink’s opening for the season.
